The Ministry Team
Nigel Beer has been the vicar since 2013. He is a Yorkshireman, and was formerly a Vicar in a team of churches in Leeds. He has been involved with the New Wine network for many years. He is married to Janet and they have 2 grown up daughters. In his spare time he enjoys walking up big hills, playing golf and is a supporter of Leeds Rhinos Rugby League club and follows his hometown football club Huddersfield Town.
Carl Harding arrived as curate in 2015, having completed a BA in Theology and Ministry at Cranmer Hall in Durham. Before training for the ministry he was working for his local church in South London as Preaching and Teaching Co-ordinator. He has also been a nurse, and worked in desktop publishing and software engineering. He is married to Maggie and together they are loving living in Cumbria and exploring the lakes and the coast. He is also enjoying building his vinyl record collection up again and playing the bass guitar in the loft!
We are blessed to have some great Readers - who share in leading worship and preaching.
Janet Beer, another of the Readers on the team, is married to Nigel (see above) and is a special needs teacher.
Rob Cook is a Reader and has worked in a variety of jobs including banking and finance, church administration, publishing and bookselling. He has been married to Liz for 35 years and they have three grown up daughters and four grandchildren. He would like to see the church continue to grow both numerically and in understanding and application of the Christian faith. He enjoys music, books, cooking, walking.
Recently joining the Reader team, Robert Cox comes from the south of England. He has lived and worshipped in the parish, though, for a third of his life. His background is in graphic design, marketing and teaching. He's passionate for people to discover the real person God created them to be. He loves the green-ness in nature and enjoys the stimulation of visiting art galleries. Housemates include two pet rats.
Licensed in the Chester Diocese, Amanda joined the team in 2015 having retired from a long nursing career in Neonates in both West Cumbria and Manchester. Amanda and her husband Frank wanted to return to Cumbria following her retirement and are now enjoying exploring and getting to know Carlisle and the surrounding area. Amanda’s desire is to see God’s Kingdom here on earth grow and for people to know just how much God loves them.
Now a retired "Emeritus" reader, Tim Hazard has been a member of St Michael's since marrying Stella in 1966 and has been a Reader for nearly as long. He is a retired Legal Executive and so enjoys dealing with some of the administration of a busy parish. Tim has two daughters, four grandchildren and a dog. He enjoys the outdoors is a member of Rotary and is also involved in the Deanery and Diocese. Did someone say something about retirement?
